During my Neurology Internship in Medical School, I was introduced to a very "bizzarre" theory that suggested Parkisnon's Disease does not originate in the brain. In fact, the sporadic form of the disease actually occurs after lewy bodies ascend to the CNS from the gastrointestinal system!

This incredibly interesting subject, although extensively discussed in literature, was lacking 2D illustrations and 3D visuals. Therefore, I chose to create a unique 3D animation, to enrich medical education and to contribute to the theory's visualization and understanding.

After self research and storyboarding, this project came to life using Blender and Adobe AfterEffects as a self- directed project during the second semester of MSc Medical Art.

Polycystic Kidney vs Simple Cysts

This animation aimed to allow medical students, who usually tend to attribute simple kidney cysts to PKD due to rookie excitement, to learn the diagnostic criteria which clearly distinguish the two.

The 3D model was rendered in Keyshot and processed in Adobe After Effects.
