3D Modeling Making Process...

Inner Ear

Dissertation

During my ENT rotation in Medical School, I remember patients walking in the office with a severe spinning sensation and nausea. It didn't take more than a few minutes for the specialist, to make a diagnosis and perform specific head manoeuvres on the patient to instantly relief their symptoms. I was then taught about how ear stones that normally exist in the inner ear can get dislodged into the canals causing Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. The most fascinating part for me, though, was how easy -in theory- it was to place them back if the head was turned in the correct direction, yet how little 3D visuals existed to help the health community diagnose and treat the disease.

Therefore, for my MSc Medical Art Dissertation I worked closely with a software developer to create a smartphone app for the diagnosis and treatment of BPPV, called BPPV 360° (Free download for Android).

The project was awarded with the Best Overall Project of the MSc Medical Art 2024 at the University of Dundee.

Polycystic Kidney

PKD

This project conducted at the University of Dundee during my master's introduced me to 3D Sculpting using ZBrush.

I created a cross section of a polycystic and normal kidney and attached them to the main blood vessels. The model was then rendered in Keyshot to create a short animation.

Brain

Brain Hemispheres and Basal Ganglia

Made in Blender using sculpting tools for the brain and box modeling for the corpus caudate.

The final model along with others were used in the Parkinson's Pathophysiology Animation.

GI

Gastrointestinal System and Vagus nerve

The Gastrointestinal System model was part of the Parkinson's Animation project.

Made in Blender using box modeling. Emphasis was given on maintaining a low poly count for a smoother animation rendering.

The texturing was done in Adobe 3D Substance Painter.

Vagus nerve was created using the tree sapling add-on using anatomical references.
